Project Description: | Construction of Al Udayn Al Jarahi Road (84 km), in Ibb and Al Qahrah Hais branch (27.7 km) in Al The project makes the route viable and makes the severe gradients of the mountains had to be controlled. Intense rainfall which occurs around once a year formed deep gullies within the terrain. To construct bridges to pass these valleys would be an incredibly costly process, therefore the contractor explored using massive earth retaining structures instead. Construction in the arid conditions of Yemen means that concrete-based retaining walls can be problematic, with extensive curing time an issue. All fill for the walls was taken from the sections in cut local to the site. In addition to being a key component of the road, the project has been part of regional plans for years and will take a significant step toward completing the network of major roads in Yemen. Project goals • Reduce travel times by providing a continuous highway along the terrain. • Improve safety and reliability. |
