Project Description:

Al Khor is a coastal city in northern Qatar, located 50 kilometers north of the capital, Doha. The name of the city means creek in Arabic as the town is located on a creek. Al Khor is home to many employees of the oil industry due to its proximity to Qatar's northern oil and natural gas fields, and due to its proximity to the Ras Laffan Industrial City.

A little island, with fine golden sands and low white limestone cliffs, lies in a wide bay, close within the curving embrace of the nearby mainland. The sparkling water is jade green in the shallows and merges into a soft aquamarine where the natural channels lie.

Surrounding the island is a forest of green, salt-encrusted mangroves, the home of countless birds. Jeweled kingfishers flash by, and purple herons, pink flamingoes, and glossy ibis wade in the shallows. Their strange, haunting calls echo over the island. Overall arches the deep and infinite blue of the sky.

Al-Khor corniche is one of the attractions envisioned to have local community garden plots, picnic areas, prayer rooms, shaded pavilions, restrooms, heavily-limbed shaded trees, and a recreational open space that will serve the tourist on a leisure tour opportunity.
